Costa Rica is famous for the quality of it's coffee. The government recognized the value of quality and passed a law in 1989 prohibiting the growing of lower grade robusta coffee. Since then the quest for quality has been evolving. Costa Rica has 8 distinct coffee growing regions, with Tarrazu being the most famous. The growing region's high growing climate allows the coffee cherry to mature slowly so it can develop sweetness and a pleasant clean acidity. Today, Costa Rica is a leader in Central America specialty arabica coffee.
